This lesson is about configuring authentication for EIGRP between your routers. Enabling authentication within EIGRP prevents unwanted routes (from a rogue router) from poisoning or corrupting your routing table.
When routers are configured for authentication, they will only accept messages from routers with the same configured pre-shared key.
As a prerequisite, you must have a working EIGRP configuration. It is highly recommended to configure each router with NTP to ensure the time is the same on all routers. This effects keys with time limitations.
The video below is a tutorial walking through the steps of configuring EIGRP authentication. Below the video are the written step by steps. Be sure to watch the video in HD on YouTube.
Overview
Here is a basic network in which we will configure authentication.
We have a full EIGRP neighborship between R1 and R2. We just need to configure authentication between the two so there are no other routers introduced into this network that may alter the routing tables. EIGRP is configured on each router using autonomous system number 1.
It’s that time of year where we reflect on the gifts that we have received. We give thanks to our loved ones, friends, a higher God and everyone else.
First and foremost, I give thanks to God for he has truly given me so much to live for. For my beautiful wife and our little one on the way. We just passed our 1 year wedding anniversary and it just feels like we got married yesterday. Our new lives together has been so wonderful and I am thankful that my wife is so full of love. We stick right by each other.
I am thankful for my family. They are such great supporters for what I do. My parents have really backed me in whatever I have done. They are the reason why I succeed so well in what I pursue. I’m thankful for having a great brother who always puts family first. Even when he is schooling about an hour away, he still finds time to make it back home.
I am thankful for my friends who have stuck around for all these years. We still remain faithful to each other and keep it simple. Low drama and just many get togethers having fun as we should.
Now we make it to the little things..
lolcats
Apple products
coffee
my car for getting me from point a to b although I treat it like trash
San Diego for it’s awesome weather
photography, a way to express my artsy side
wine, the best way to remain unstressful
a solid network, because I get to stay home on holidays
Twitter, one of the biggest resources out there and biggest time wasters.. how can it be both!?
You! Because eventually I’d go crazy without any visitors
I have established a Cisco user group in San Diego. It is focused on helping others study for and obtain their Cisco certifications. On top of that there will be presentations from subject matter experts in the networking field with emphasis on Cisco material.
Most people who visit this site currently do not live in San Diego but I plan to make these meetings available to everyone. As long as I can round up the correct resources I will have the meetings streamed live through ustream.
Also, meeting agendas and notes will be available online to view along with the presenters presentations. The goal is to share the knowledge with everyone. Emphasis of the meetings will be Cisco but the core knowledge is in networking technologies.
Join us for our monthly meetings and share with your colleagues who may be interested.
