May 2011

After reading the Foundation Learning Guide for just a few months I have decided to postpone my CCNP ROUTE exam studies to the end of this year. I have just finished reading the FLG last month and was moving to the Official Certification Guide. The reason why I moved to the OCG was because I did not score well on some practice questions. I want to be fully prepared before sitting in for the exam.

Currently, at my employer, the CCNP isn’t required. Since I have my CCNA, it has proved to be beneficial knowledge. I wouldn’t say that not acquiring my CCNP this year would be a failure but the knowledge I have learned from the ROUTE textbooks was plenty. I can put that knowledge to use, especially in OSPF.

It’s just that there are other technologies that I must focus on at the moment. One of those technologies being Microsoft’s. As you saw from my previous post, my reading list was small but the text books were large.

CCNP will still be part of my studies this year. I probably won’t be going into the textbooks but I will definitely be reviewing my notes so that my mind is refreshed.

This week’s reading list will be dedicated to Systems Center Operation and Configuration Manager 2007. We have these two implementations in place and I’d love to get to know what features can be utilized.

I am already familiar with both technologies but need to become more of an expert. There are a number of features I already want to use such as the Software Distribution with Configuration Manager. I’m getting tired of using Group Policy to deploy applications.

My prediction is that Operations Manager might take longer to get used to because of all the customization I need to put in place. Right now Operations Manager is just spitting out so many alerts. Some of the default intervals and timers are just not configured properly for our environment.

If you’re just starting out with System Center Operations and Configuration Manager 2007 here are some great places to start:
