How To Comment on Blogs Like a Pro - 7 Simple Tips

Bloggers often emphasize on strategies to increasing blog post comments but I think it’s important to re-visit the topic of how to comment on other blogs. Bloggers focus too much on back links or inbound links. This can lead to the hit-and-run style of commenting.. the “great post!” comments.

Bad Blog Comment 2

So how can you comment like a pro and participate in the comment threads?

Read the blog post

Don’t comment until you’ve read the blog post. Don’t comment with “I’ll have to read this when I get home.”

Read the post in your free time then leave a comment.

Stay on topic

A comment shouldn’t be focused on me, me, and me. Leave a worthwhile comment related to the author’s content. Leave a well thought out comment instead of information pertaining to your new blog post that has no relevance to the blog post you’re commenting on.

Usually bloggers will consider that as comment spam.

Contribute

Do your best to add to the author’s main point that can be beneficial to not only the author but also other readers. Respond to other commentators if you can provide useful input. Try not to do a hit-and-run “nice post”.

Elaborate

Instead of writing “nice post” on a blog, try to think of why you thought it was nice. Was it nice because you learned something new that you could utilize. Was it a great post because the content was truly original and inspiring? Elaborate and help author with constructive criticism.

SD Tweetup, A Tweetin’ Event

Welcome SD Tweeps!

Follow me on twitter

On behalf of San Diego Tweeps I’d like to give a big thanks to KPBS for hosting a wonderful event. It truly was a great gathering of people engaging in fascinating conversations.

Huge gratitude for our organizers, Jenn Van Grove and Matt Browne for the SD Tweetup Group. There were an estimated attendance of 223 wonderful people which I sadly did not get to talk to all of them!

We had some great sponsors for the even, again KPBS, webwizards.net, Greenwala and iList. Beverages were provided by SDSU Catering and there were some sushi and crackers. The Wii station was very much active and bowling seemed to be the favorite. SD Tweetup also streamed live to ustream.tv which attracted quite a few viewers.

It was my first time going to the SD Tweetup event and it turned out quite a blast. I’m looking forward to future events and would encourage anyone interested to sign up on meetup.com for more updates.

SDBloggers 1 Year Anniversary Party

Welcome all those from the SDBloggers meetup group, please visit my other blog as well for the technology, productivity and stuff side of me. I had the pleasure of attending the San Diego Bloggers 1 Year Anniversary Party and was overwhelmed with people from all over San Diego. SDBloggers is a meetup.com group which met tonight at the Modus Supper Club which almost seemed like not enough room for all the bloggers.

Twitter is a Waste of Time

Do you know how much time you spend Tweeting away? Do you find yourself less productive maybe? I’m following about 204 people and currently have about 617 updates. That’s nothing compared to.. say.. Dave Winer with 11,233 updates.

twitter

How do you people find time to get things done??

It’s hard enough to follow 200 some people and yet still provide some sort of noteworthy, useful and witty Tweet. Sure I’ve had my fair share of fun conversations and I’ve found wonderful charming blogs through Twitter but I can’t imagine spending the whole day using Twitter.

Let’s compare some of the more notable figures. Data provided by Tweetwasters.
